| CD REVIEW: Bumblefoot

The CD explodes in your face with intro piece “Abnormal” a furious intro piece that hits hard with its thrashing punk rock rhythms, thunderous guitar chords & high adrenalin punk rock vibe. Track 2 delivers more of the same raw intensity with “Glad to be Here” a sarcastic follow up piece that slams your ears into submission with its aggressive style & no holds barred lyrical content & comical musical flair. Track 3 “Objectify” shifts gears a bit with its dynamic ebb & flow that whips you around like a wild tornado, with melodic guitar & dynamic vocal intensity from Thal. As the CD quickly unfolds I can hear influences ranging from Social Distortion, The Clash, System Of A Down, Rage Against the Machine, Rancid to even old school Suicidal Tendencies & Black Flag. The music has everything you would expect from a high octane driven punk CD. The musical style refuses to be pinned down, the vocals are gritty & are deep in your grill, & the guitar playing is hot to the touch. Make no bones about it – this is total mosh pit madness. The songs themselves are reckless & packed to the hilt with mob hit intensity & lyrical content straight from the streets. Thal’s vocal style works well & is intense as he lets it all hang out. His voice fit’s this style of music with its stereotypical jagged edge delivery. Right from the beginning the CD hits solid stride dishing 6 solid songs in a row. I might add his timing is spot on, & his guitar playing definitely holds its own dishing out solo that will make your head spin. Rhythm section – Dennis Leeflang (drums) & lays down the low end groove thick as a brick. What I like most about the music is its sheer intensity. Note for note, song for song - like a heavy weight boxer the songs keep coming at you one after the other - with no sign of letting up. From intense “Some other Guy” to dynamic “Conspiracy” to bluesy “Jenny B” & “redeye” to hard hitting “Last Time” to passionate “Simple Days”, “Green” & “Misery” this CD has something for just about everyone. I especially like the songs that thrash you hard like “Piranha”, “Guitars Still Suck” There’s even 2 instrumentals “Spaghetti” & “The Day After” The CD ends with “Dash” the perfect finale statement for a CD like this.” It’s hard to find any noticeable weaknesses with this CD. A few minor issues - I don't recall many vocal harmonies on the entire CD. This would not only add vocal variety, but give Thal more melodic vocal reinforcement. This can also be done without compromising the heaviness of the sound. Abnormal from Bumblefoot is one of the most tripped out, intense, crazy, chaotic, musical rides I’ve ever been on – PERIOD! I don’t think I’ve ever heard music quite like this. It’s strength – the raw, sheer song for song intensity that keeps coming at you. No doubt this guy is a total riot to check out live in the back clubs of New York. The music is dirty, but rock solid, heavy & consistent. Like a heavy weight fighter this CD packs a powerful punch, & goes the full 12 rounds with no sign of letting up. Like a 1-2 punch the song keep coming at you, one after the other until you’re ready to tap out. The messages are intense & straight from the streets of New York & may cause your ears to bleed. Overall it packs a powerful punch, & takes no prisoners. You want profanity, you want a bloody nose, you want attitude, mosh pit madness, you want high octane rock that's in your face?
